3. Creating the habit
If you’ve checked out episodes 1 and 2 of this mini series (still available on my website), you’ll know we’ve covered
👌identifying the change you really want AND
👌setting meaningful goals
Today, I’m sharing some tips on something that can all too often. have us falling at the first hurdle!
Creating habits that will lead to success
Why does it seem that arguably detrimental habits seem so easy to form, whilst those that could inevitably bring us success can seem as slippery to hold onto as a bar of soap?!
I think one of the answers is that, quite simply, it can take a while to reap the benefits of “positive” habits, such as those relating
fitness levels
nutrition
mindfulness
positive internal language
So, how do we make them accessible, memorable and more sticky?!
Firstly, habit forming moves through 3 key stages
➡️ deciding (on the habit/s)
➡️ practicing (the habit/s on purpose)
➡️ being (the new habit is part of how you live)
You may be at the deciding stage; getting clarity over which habit/s will support the change you desire.
Next we move into a practicing phase which is where “habit forming” takes place. With all the good intentions in the world, it can feel tough to implement new habits… but here are some tips
attach your new habit to an existing one ie
- if you want to take a break from social media everyday, you could put your phone away with your keys for an hour when you come through the front door
-if you’d like to start setting daily intentions, you could do it while you clean your teeth in the morning
don’t stress about the times you forget, celebrate the times you remember
make the habit simple and important to you!
Eventually your actions will “transcend habit” to the being stage and will no longer require the same level of thought and effort… it will just become a way of life.
You’ve been creating habits all your life, without even thinking about it, so don’t doubt yourself when it comes to creating habits got a better future.
You deserve it.
Final part next week. Take good care in the meantime 👌
